I came across George William Featherstone when he got married to Emma Farr on the 17 April 1865 in St Paul’s Church in Worcester. He must have been just 21, because when I found them in a later census he said he was born in 1844. His marriage lasted only 23 years as he died in 1888 in Worcester. They registered their last child as Ernest Wolfendale Featherstone I don’t know why they gave him the name and I cannot find him after he was with his mother in the 1891 census in Charles Street in Worcester. I found another daughter Catherine Agnes baptised in Aug 1871 and not found on any records since.

George Williams’ father was according to his marriage details was also called George and he was a Waterman, I have been unable to find a record that shows them together. In 1861 George was lodging with a 27 year old Samuel Gittens a Cordwainer and his family, George following the same profession, all his life. I cannot find him at all in 1851 when he would have been only 7.

His eldest son also George William married in the same church as his father 30 years later. To Maggie Remington ( I have not found her with the same name in any census) Helen Mary Ann when married, Margaret in 1901, Ellen in 1911 (with Maggie crossed out). His Brother in law Albert J Alldis was a Certified School teacher, a profession follow by two of George’s sisters Mary Ann Alberts’ wife and Edith Georges’ youngest sister.

I found a George who could be George Williams’ father in both 1851 and 1841 but cannot prove it.

Joseph Ralph was a Commercial traveler in the Drapery business. We think he had a sister Phoebe J (probably Jane) He married in Harrogate in North Yorkshire in 1873 to Emily Mary Fawcus. On the certificate he states he is living in Manchester Lancashire. Together they have 5 Children, the only Girl Hilda dies as a toddler. We cannot find him in any census after he marries Emily and he dies in Dec 1888 leaving Emily the princely sum of £163 pounds. Previous to the marriage the only Joseph we can find that fits his profile is a Joseph in Bishop Auckland aged 15 as a Assistant Draper in a shop in 1861. The census States he was born in The USA. Back in 1851 he is lodging with the Fleming Family in Stanhope where both he and Phoebe are enumerated as born in the USA. They are both under 5. Phobe goes on to Live with another lodger Frances Fleming. In later census details it states she is Frances’s niece. and that she was born in the State of Pennsylvania.
We can find no travel documents, but have found the death in PA of a miner named Ralph and what maybe his travel to the USA in 1837 aged 18. Could this be their father ? Is this the reason they came back, but who brought them I don’t think two under fives would travel alone. Or is it something to do with the civil war which must have been going on around them in PA.

Marriage in St Paul’s Church, Middlesbrough Parish
22 Feb 1879
Robert Featherstone aged 21 a Bachelor and Puddler of 12 Nelson Street, father Robert Featherstone a labourer
to
Margaret Haynes aged 15 Spinster of 12 Nelson Street, father Frank Haynes a coal miner
Both left their mark
Witnesses Robert Montieth and Mary Hutchinson (who left her mark)
Searching for Robert & Margaret in the 1881 census, nothing found apart from this entry
1881 Census
Piece:4915 Folio:68 Page:15
Registration District:Auckland. Civil Parish:Pollards Lands
Address:12, Thompsons Cottages, Pollards Lands, Co. Durham
FEATHERSTONE, Ann Head Widow F 50 1831 Leaming Yorkshire
FEATHERSTONE, Robert Son Married M 23 1858 Puddler Bishop Auckland Durham
FEATHERSTONE, Mark Daughter In Law Married M 20 1861 Bishop Auckland Durham
FEATHERSTONE, George Son Single M 19 1862 Coal Worker Miner Bishop Auckland Durham
FEATHERSTONE, Elizth Daughter Single F 16 1865 Char Woman Bishop Auckland Durham

I have looked closely at the entry it is Mark, however in the age column, someone has written her age again as 20. transfering it to the female section.

The only entry I can find in 1871, which comes close is again in Auckland, the children match up but the Mothers name is Mary, which does not fit..
I have searched the 1891 with no result?
